Seven Unique Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day

Don’t want to sit inside at a restaurant on Mother’s Day? Here are some unique ideas to get you out of the house and into the fresh air.

Challenge yourself on the High Ropes Challenge Course at Lincoln Marsh in Wheaton. You can traverse balance logs, cargo net, Burma bridges and multi-vines all at 28 feet above the ground! From 9am-noon on Sunday, May 10, 2015. Register at 630-871-2810. $28/resident, $35 non-resident. (If High Ropes isn’t your idea of fun, then take a walk in the woods in search of wildflowers. This program is from 2-3pm at Lincoln Marsh.)

Get your balance back at the Mother’s Day Skate at Triphahn Center Ice Arena in Hoffman Estates. Sunday, May 10 from 3-4:30pm. There’s nothing like spending time with your children on ice skates! Moms get in free with a paid child.

Go for a Birds & Bagels Hike at Lyman Woods in Downers Grove. On Sunday, May 10, 2015, from 8-9:30am. Are you an early bird? Then rouse the family for an early morning hike through the trails in search of your feathered friends. Then enjoy a bagel breakfast at the Interpretive Center. $8, please register. Best for ages 4+. (If you miss this on Mother’s Day, then plan ahead for the same hike on Father’s Day on June 21st.)

Watch the horses race at Arlington International. On Sunday, May 10, doors open at 11am and the first race is at 1:15pm. The first 5,000 moms through the Admission Gates will receive a Red Rose. We’ll have family entertainment, food and beverage specials all day long, and a DJ taking requests from 1:15pm until the last race.

Ride the roller coaster at Santa’s Village Azoosment Park. Moms get in free with one full paid general admission. The park is open from 11am-6pm.

Mom’s golf free at Coyote Crossing Mini-Golf in West Chicago with the purchase of one round at this unique, professionally designed 18-hole mini-golf course. This course is a fun way to work on your short game, get together with friends, or just spend some quality time with the kids. Open Saturdays from 11am-10pm and Sundays from 11am-7pm until the summer season starts on June 15.

Check out the animals at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents Built to Amaze® circus at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford. The circus runs all weekend from Friday-Sunday, May 8-10.
