The Children’s Theatre of Western Springs is excited to present Ozma of Oz, Susan Zeder’s stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s third tale of the adventures in Oz. Featuring a cast and crew of amazingly talented local students direct from the CTWS theatre program, this contemporary adaptation explores the relationship between a now teenage Dorothy and her elderly Uncle Henry as she reluctantly accompanies him on a voyage to Australia. In the midst of a violent storm, they argue and are thrown overboard and transported back to Oz, a land where there is no time. Unwittingly, they activate Tic Toc and time begins in Oz. Their adventures lead them to a giant wisecracking chicken named Bill, Princess Langwidere (she of many heads), and to the super strong and wise Ozma of Oz. This play is not only full of fantasy and fun but also incorporates a valuable lesson of looking beyond the surface and acknowledging one’s true inner worth.
