Wisconsin State Fair: Oaklee’s 4 Tips 4 Fun

Oaklee’s mom, Mary, took her kids to the Wisconsin State Fair. Here are her Oaklee’s 4 Tips 4 out-and-about Fun at the Fair.

Wisconsin State Fair is a Road Trip worth the effort! Pop in a movie or an audio book with a State Fair theme (think Charlotte’s Web) and hit the road.  And just maybe your little fair-goers will be just tired enough to snooze all the way home!

  1. Navigating the Fair:
Do some research before you leave home then get there early! Use the Fair’s website to determine your first stop. Cream Puffs were our priority and there was no line before lunch. Learn about the Sea Lion Splash–new to the Fair for 2015–and view all the schedules for the free entertainment stages. (There is a 2015 Wisconsin State Fair mobile app but the “Cow-Fi” Wi-Fi hotspots were touch and go.) Bonus: getting there early will also mean you will get a spot in the $10 parking lot on the fairgrounds. Closer Parking = Less Walking.

  2. What to Bring:
Your own hand sanitizer. The kids are going to want to touch every animal and farm display and then eat everything they see, usually simultaneously. Bonus: The bathrooms located under the grandstand seem to have the shortest lines. All the Women’s bathrooms we visited offered diaper changing stations.

  3. Where to Eat with the Kiddos:
The Wisconsin Products Building. Offering an array of family friendly food choices from loaded baked potatoes, pizza, and grilled cheese sandwiches to caramel apples and ice cream. Lots of Wisconsin sausage, cheese, cranberries and honey, you should be able to find something for everyone there.  There are also some benches and chairs inside the air-conditioned building.

  4. Take a break!
Ride the sky glider for a great view of the park and a relaxing alternative to walking. Round trip or one way, the sky glider is a State Fair original. I also use this ride as a bribe to skip the pricey midway rides and games!
