Spring break is a great time to keep the learning going by visiting local museums. Here are a few of the fascinating exhibits you’ll find.

Find your inner builder at this exhibit of sensational LEGO® structures. This exhibit features more than a dozen giant constructions, including a 60-foot Golden Gate Bridge, the International Space Station and Roman Coliseum.

Adventures with Clifford, the Big Red Dog (thru May 15, 2016)

Board the Birdwell Island ferry and journey to the world of Clifford™, America’s beloved big red dog with a heart to match. Slide down Clifford’s tail, work together to fill Clifford’s big dog bowl with bones, hunt for seashells at T-Bone’s beach. No matter what activity they choose, children will learn valuable life lessons through play.

FREE Admission – Visit the Museums at Lisle Station Park to see our historic train depot and CB&Q Waycar! The museum campus was created in 1978 to preserve Lisle’s rich heritage with continued development of its historical buildings, including the Depot Museum, CB&Q Waycar, Netzley/Yender Farmhouse, Blacksmith Shop and Beaubien Tavern, which house our special exhibits and programming for kids and adults alike.

Building blocks are classic, timeless toys. Put a new spin on an old favorite by letting children explore dozens of different types of building blocks – oversized, odd-shaped, magnetic, and more – all in a single space!

 

Kenosha Public Museum

Mammoths at the Museum

A centerpiece of the Kenosha Public Museum is the Shaefer and Hebior mammoth exhibit. The Schaefer mammoth was found in Kenosha county in 1992. The Hebior mammoth is the largest and most complete mammoth excavated in North America.

China’s First Emperor and his TerraCotta Warriors (thru Jan. 8, 2017)

China’s First Emperor, Qin Shihuang, planned to spend his afterlife buried in a palatial tomb, surrounded by all his worldly treasures. To guard his mausoleum, he commissioned an army of terracotta warriors unlike anything seen before or since.

Children of Hangzhou: Connecting with China is a new traveling exhibit that presents four children from Hangzhou at home, at school, in the theater, and in the countryside. The Hangzhou young people will introduce themselves through media and the activities of their daily lives.

 

The Civil War Museum

Seeing the Elephant – a 360º movie experience

Seeing the Elephant was the term Civil War soldiers used to say they saw battle. An award-winning, high-tech digital movie experience in The Fiery Trial allows visitors a glimpse at “the Elephant.” One of just a handful of venues nationwide using 360° movie technology, the Civil War Museum movie focuses on personal experiences and accounts of citizen soldiers.

 

Burpee Museum of Natural History

Jane: Diary of a Dinosaur

After years of preparation, Jane, the world’s most complete and best preserved juvenile T. rex, is on display as the centerpiece of a captivating exhibit at Burpee Museum, Jane: Diary of a Dinosaur. Come discover what happened during the 66 million years she lay buried, visit the expedition’s Montana base camp, and view Jane’s fully restored 21-foot skeleton.

 

Naper Settlement

Play With History

Visitors have fun with the past in the exhibit “Play with History.” The gallery includes displays of collections from Naper Settlement staff that encourage a pleasant stroll down memory lane, including Abraham Lincoln memorabilia, PEZ dispensers, Blenko glass, and more.

 

Little White School House

Step back in time at the Little White School Museum. Built as a church in 1850, then used as a school until the mid 1960’s, the building is now a public museum rich with local history.
