Join Wheaton mom and daughter team, Shantel and Raven Lauer, who are the Lupus Walk Ambassadors for this year’s tenth annual Western Suburbs Illinois Lupus Walk in Naperville on Aug. 8, 2015.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect virtually any system in the body, with the most common symptoms of fatigue and body aches. It’s difficult to diagnose and a challenge to treat. There is no cure, and very few treatments exist. Raven was diagnosed in 2011 at age 14 after a year of symptoms. She and her mother, Shantel, have been raising awareness of the disease ever since.
The Lupus Society of Illinois walks help to raise funds to find the causes and cure for lupus and provide support for lupus sufferers. For Raven and Shantel, it’s an important way to find and expand the support community.
You can help by participating in the walk. Choose a one- or three-mile walk through the Riverwalk and downtown Naperville. This is a family-friendly event with music and entertainment, a raffle and kid’s activities. Register for the walk at www.lupuswalkil.org.
If you can’t make it to Naperville on August 8, the Society has many walks throughout the year, including one in Chicago on Sept. 27, 2015.
