The Windy City lives up to its namesake with these fun family events!

Flying 4 Kids At Your Local Park District

Bring your kite and join your local park district to participate in Annual Flying 4 Kids events. These statewide kite-flying events are designed to create awareness of parks, recreation and the Park District Youth License Plate program. Most events are free and open to all ages.

 

April 23, 1-3pm
Earth Day Kite Fly
Oakbrook Terrace Park District – Heritage Park.
Grab the kids and your kite and join us at Heritage Park for an Earth Day Celebration! This FREE event will include kite crafts, bubbles, and lots of Springtime fun for the family!!

April 23, 11am-1pm
Family Kite Fly
Century Park Boat Dock Shelter, 1001 Lakeview Pkwy., Vernon Hills.
Come on out to this free family event to support the Illinois Park & Recreation Association’s “Flying 4 Kids” program. Bring your own kite or purchase one at the event for $6. Park at the Boat Dock shelter parking lot.

Goodenow Grove Earth, Wind and Fire Festival
Plum Creek Nature Center, 27064 S. Dutton Road, Beecher.
Bring your family and friends to our Festival for inspiration on how to enjoy your backyard in a new way, including kite flying, candy drop, campfires, composting and gardening ideas and more.

May 1, 11am-3pm
Kite Fly Fun for the Whole Family
Maryknoll Park, 845 Pershing Avenue, Glen Ellyn.
Chicago Kite will be highlighting their super kites flown by experienced flyers. Participants can build a kite or purchase a kite on-site. At some time during the event, when the weather is just right, Chicago Kite will drop candy from one of their kites.

Family Kite Day
McCullough Park, 150 W. Illinois Ave. Aurora.
Bring your family out to discover this forgotten pastime on a beautiful spring day! Kites will be provided. Register by May 4.

Chicago Kids and Kites Festival
Cricket Hill in Lincoln Park, Montrose and Wilson, Chicago.
Bring the whole family to this annual festival that celebrates spring in Chicago. The City of Chicago will provide kite kits for children to build, decorate and fly, while supplies last. Other activities include face painting, balloon artists and crafts.

May 7, 10am-2pm
Go Fly a Kite
Graf Park, Wheaton. 
The Chicago Fire Kite Team and the Kite Society of Illinois and Wisconsin perform a demonstration and coordinate a number of kite flying activities for participants. This event brings over 1,000 participants of all ages each year. Free.

May 15, noon-1:30pm
Flying 4 Kids Kite Fly and Family Picnic
Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane, Schaumburg.
Be a part of Flying 4 Kids, a statewide kite fly! PaFamilies, kids, kite enthusiasts and novices are welcome to enjoy a day of good old-fashioned kite flying and a picnic. Bring a favorite kite or come to build one. Wind or no wind, be a part of this event for a great cause! Don’t forget to bring a picnic lunch, too. Event will be held rain or shine.

Outta Sight Kite Flight
Kennedy Park, 4051 Fifth Ave., Kenosha, Wisconsin
Come to this 15th annual, two-day event with performances by professional kite flyers. This family event takes place next to Lake Michigan and is free to all, with free parking.

Naperville Park District Frontier Kite Fly Festival
Frontier Sports Complex, 3380 Cedar Glade Dr., Naperville.
Enjoy gigantic kites, exciting demonstrations, stunts and hands-on activities, games and giveaways.

August 6, 11am-4pm
Annual Kite Fest
Berens Park (West End), 493 Oak Lawn, Elmhurst.
The day will consist of stunt, trick, and show kite demonstrations, a family fun fly, candy drop, free kite building for children and interactive contests.  Bring your own kites to fly during open fly times.  Concessions and kite vendors available.

Aug 13-14, 10am-3pm
Chicago Botanic Garden Kite Fest
Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe.
Enjoy soaring, stunt-kite performances set to music.  High-flying professionals demonstrate awesome feats of beauty and great skill. Walk or take the free tram to the Festival.  Ice cream, beverages and many lunch options available for purchase.

August 20, 11am-3pm
Kite Festival
Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road, Geneva.
View incredible kite demonstrations from Chicago Kite (wind permitting), visit with our sponsors and food booths, and enjoy a variety of FREE program demos at Peck Farm Park.  Plus, come early, the first 500 kids will receive a FREE paper kite to color, assemble, and fly!
